Certum identity verification — why it's required and how it works

A qualified certificate — whether a signature or an electronic seal — carries the same legal weight as a handwritten signature. Under the eIDAS regulation and Polish legislation on trust services, the identity of the applicant must be unambiguously verified before the certificate is issued.

As an official Certum partner, we are authorised to carry out identity verification. You can use our service in two situations:

  • You are purchasing a certificate from us — identity verification is part of the service and is carried out together with the order.
  • You purchased a certificate yourself on certum.pl — contact us for verification only. We will assist you just as efficiently.

Verification is required for every new certificate and upon renewal.

Video Verification

From anywhere

Identity verification takes place via a video call through the Certum system. You don't need to go anywhere — all you need is a computer or phone with a camera and a valid identity document.

1

You contact us — we agree on the details and send you the link to the Certum verification system

2

You log in to the system and start a video call with a Certum operator

3

During the call (approx. 10–15 min) you present your national ID card or passport

4

After successful verification, the certificate is issued — usually the same day

What you need:
  • Computer or phone with a camera and microphone
  • Internet connection
  • Valid national ID card or passport

Required documents

Depending on the type of certificate

Qualified Electronic Signature
Individual

  • Valid national ID card or passport
  • Polish personal identification number (PESEL, if applicable)
  • Email address

That's all. For video verification, you also need a computer or phone with a camera.
